Kangkeng – San-yaan (Daan) Mai Dee

Artist: Kangkeng
Title: San-yaan (Daan) Mai Dee
English Title: Bad Reception (Character)
Album: Kangkeng Tua Tee 4
Year: 2010

Tah bpen yahng nee, rao song kon yaek tahng sa dee gwah
If this is how it’s going to be, it’s better we go our separate ways
Kae hai dtop neung kam tee chun taam tur,
I just wanted a simple answer to my question,
Tur yang dtop mai dai
But you can’t even answer it
Reuang jing gor kae bauk wah chai
If it’s true, then just say yes
Tah mai jing gor kae dtop wah mai
If not, then just answer no
Kae kam dtop neung kam tur yang lang-lay
Yet, you’re wavering over a one-word answer
Tah bpen yahng nee ja hai chun cheua dai ngai
If you act like this, how do you expect me to believe
Wah tur gap kao mai mee arai gan
That there’s nothing between you and him?
Laaw kao dai bur tur mah yahng rai
So how did he get your number
Tah tur mai bpen kon hai pai
If you weren’t the one who gave it to him?
Tur hen chun ngoh nak reu ngai
Do you take me for such a fool
Tee kao toh mah dton tur yoo gap chun
Cause he called while you were with me
Laaw tummai mai rap sai
So why didn’t you take the call?
*Tur bauk wah san-yaan mai dee
You blamed it on bad reception
Chun wah man san-daan mahk gwah mai
I’d blame it more on your character
Mae tum long pai dai…mai ai kon
Damn! You’re able to do it…without shame
**Aep long wah tur bpen nang fah
Was misled to believe you were an angel
Tee tae, tur gor keu nang rai
When in fact, you are a demoness
Tum hai chun cheuang lae dtai jai
Had me completely convinced
Wah ai tur nan gert mah peua chun
That you were made for me
Laaw man gor bpen kae kwarm fan
But it turned out to be just my imagination
Gor tur man lai jai lai bur
You’re a two-timer with multiple numbers
Bpen krai man kong ja ton mai dai
No one would be able to tolerate it
Gor ai tur man jao choo ja dtai
You’re such a promiscuous woman
Tur bpen yahng nan, gor ao yahng nee laaw gan
Since you’re like that, then let’s do this
***Lerk gan dee wah
We might as well break up
Dtang kon dtang pai hah kon mai
We’ll both go find someone new
Tee paan mah teu wah tum boon tum taan
I’ll consider the past as a charitable donation
Chun ruk tur, tur mong mai hen kah
I loved you, but you took me for granted
Sak wan tur ja dtong sia jai rong hai
One day you’ll be sorry and cry
Laaw yah mah sia dai
Then don’t you regret it
Yah mah sia jai gor laaw gan
Don’t feel bad about it
Repeat *** / ** / *
Lerk gan dee wah
We might as well break up
Tee paan mah teu wah tum boon tum taan
I’ll consider the past as a charitable donation

ESTRANGED - Aurora

Lyrics:

aurora oh aurora
pentingkah kamu itu
kenapa aku terpegun?
aurora oh aurora
selalu disanjungi
pernah ditanya mengapa?
ku tatap, berseri, berwarna hijau
yang menawan sanubari

walaupun jauh
kamu dekat di hati
pandanganku menanti mu
aurora
kamu memberi
kembali mencari

aurora oh aurora
dari manakah kamu
kekal kamu sungguh jauh
aurora oh aurora
tidak ada bunyi mu
sanggup aku tetap menunggu
terdiam kerana berwarna ungu
ku putuskan biar bisu

walaupun jauh
kamu dekat di hati
pandanganku menanti mu
aurora
kamu memberi
kembali mencari

malam ini
aku sendiri
menumpu langit sambil berkata
gembira kamu disana
ku lihat, tersenyum, berwarna merah
ku tau kau selamat

THEBRAINS

THEBRAINS.

thebrains

THEBRAINS is a local indie clothing label based in Gombak & Bangi. I’ve met them during the recent Rantai event, and they do look like a cool bunch of level headed guys, really. Our conversation was cut short due to rain, though. Who and what are they actually? Are they any different from the other indie clothing labels out there? Check out this interview & guys, thanks for lending me your time. All the best!

Q. How was Rantai-Art? Did you participate in last year event?
A. It went well and we would like to thank rantai for choosing us and Alhamdulillah we never missed any rantai event. It is so cool.

Q. Can you tell us more about The Brains, how did it first started and who are behind it?
A.
THEBRAINS officially registered 3 years ago. Actually we have involved in this field since our time in university and college. The reason is simple, this is because of our interest in arts and business. So, we combined this element in our goals and philosophy to make it success. Actually, there are 3 people behind the THEBRAINS. We started with limited capital and limited resources. Alhamdulillah, now after 3 years we already have our own outlet, production based and a few staff. We would like to thanks to everyone especially our beloved family, friends and people that support and encourage us to be what we are today.

Q. Are you part of Angkatan Baju Malaya?
A. No, but we support all the way

Q. Lately, there seem to be signicant a rise in the number of indie clothing labels in Malaysia. Do you think this is just a trend?
A.For now, clothing labels has became like a must to everybody, and as far as we concern, we’re hoping that it will not just a trend forever…period

img_6879

Q. Some of local indie labels that was really active last year seem to be very quite now. Do you think The Brains will still exist in, let say 3 years from now?
A. We believe that they did not quiet at the moment, because most of the people behind the labels is still study and we believe that they had just finishes school, maybe they were busy with colleges, universities etc. But for us, hopefully we will be in the market for a long time. It is not just about the passion, it became business, we are very serious people who really keen to it.

3

Q. Why people should buy from local indie label if they can buy clothing by established international brand for a lower price?
A. Well, this perception must change, the attitude must change not just for the people, but for the label itself. We must understand that to come to ‘that level’ we have to start somewhere, start from the bottom, build up the confidence, show some quality, creativity. They did start somewhere too..

Q. What are your strategies to stay relevent and unique?
A. Be creative, do some research, create your own identity, let people follow you not because only for the trend, because of the designs and quality.

Q. How do you market your product?
A. Good marketing, words of mouth, internet, media and every source that we have in this world, make use of it.

2

Q. What made your product different from others?
A. Well, its like this. We concentrate on the designs, we try to educate people from the words that had in our designs and most of the design itself have a meaning. It is not just for a sake of mass production but zero quality. In term of business, yes we have to produce mass quantity but, we have to make sure the quality and the meaning in every design goes along. We cater for all ages, not just for the teenagers, create something that as far as the age concern can buy and wear our stuff. We can’t expect people above 35 to wear indie tee shirts right? What about kids? Senior citizens? Family man? Think fast, put ourselves in their shoes. We did not concentrate just a few designs like 5-6 designs per year, until now, we have more than 40 designs. We produce new designs almost every week. This is how its going to be, if you want to be competitive with established clothing.

Q. Do you produce other items other then t-shirt?
A. Yes we do, any printing matters, involves bunting, banners, business cards and even premium items like mugs, caps and other stuffs. U name it, we got it..hehe

Q. Where can we get your product?
A. At this moment, people can catch us at
KL Downtown night market in Cheras and selected events, gigs and others event in KL and Peninsular Malaysia. We travel a lot almost every weekend just to meet people outside KL. Our showroom will be opening soon..InsyaAllah..

Q. What are your future plans?
A.nWe have to think big, international market, collaboration with bands, franchise all over Malaysia not just through gigs and events, but a permanent base in shopping mall or shop lots.

Gelombang muzik indie

Markah Laguku Untukmu memang selesa

Malaysia Indie Music Crying Out Loud!!

Malaysia Indie Music Crying Out Loud!!

Organising a Gig is not easy. First the organiser must find a suitable venue. Not many in Klang Valley though. Then they have to find a date (not an easy task, alotsa screening must be done). Then they have to come up with money to book the venue for the date. Then they have like a week or two to finalise the line ups, permits, sound systems, lightings, tickets, marketting materials and finally to market. Please also be informed that marketting a gig is not easy. Many mainstream media dont run or publisise Indie Gigs. The most common way of marketting is thru Myspace, other gig web portal and posters at Jamming studios. Even this dont promise good return or broad audience.

The next problem is ticketting. Not many Indie Gig Organisers use tickets. They are more 'Entrance Fees at the door type'. The organiser must price thier ticket accordingly or the crowd will shy away from it. Normal rate are from RM10-RM20. However, in average normal tickets rates are either Rm13 or RM15. Most of the gigs doesnt give returns. This is because not many organisers can cover the cost of bringing in the bands and meeting the cost. Most of the time they will loose a couple of hundred bucks. And they dont get paid for all their working hours. Which sometimes is a pity because most of the time it is in 100s of hours.

Big bands ask for big amount of money. But in reality they dont give back good returns. So organisers must be smart enough to bring in bands that cover thier payment and cover each band cost. Most of the time, the organiser will introduce one or few new bands in the gig. They dont get paid, but its still a lose to lose situation because the stage time and cost will not be returned. So many organiser are just doing this for the love of the music.

Then there are numerous problems. Like bands for instance. Everything is done via telephone or e-mails. So the organiser have no legal right if any bands dont turn up. They cant actually make the crowd to understand thier plight if these bands suddenly dont show up. I myself personally have gone thru shit because of this. Then there are bands who dont or prefer not to play with other bands. They have thier own mind in looking at who else playing in the gig.

Other problems such as Venue closing down, venue being taken over by new managment, bands acting up, police problems, clashes of gig dates, clashes of ego between bands and millions other problems are there. The most common problem are crowd turn out. Crowds who comes to local gig also do not have a good ethics. They are there to support one band and then they leave leaving the venue empty by hours.

From my point of view. Malaysia media should give more to Local and Indie act. They work thier butts off for just the love of music. Most of the bands do perform for free. All they need is good support from the media and the people. People should know making music without any form of support is very expensive. So they should atleast support the indie music and willing to part with a little more money. If they can afford to pay in hundreds to watch one International Band to play why cant they fork our a mere RM30 to watch about 10 Local Indie band in playing right.

Support Our Local Scene!!!!
